Alot of old and new mfr.s built these 'cross ram' or whatever manifolds. Theory being engine packaging so the intake runner length is increased for greater torque, while shorter runners are typically for high rpm motors.
Here's a early 90's Benz showing a V12 S-Class with a very similar desing to the Z32, not gonna say which of the modern cars came up with it first, Benz or Nissan...
